This current body of work is a reconnection with the North East of England, specifically the area around my hometown and the coastlines of Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and North Shields.
The discovery of my grandfather's 1940s Rolleiflex Automat in the garden shed, containing seven exposures that had been left undeveloped for 30 years, sparked an ongoing project to retrace his footsteps and reassess my own relationship with an area I have long since left behind.
Rooted in the seven images shot by my grandfather, the project is evolving as a dialogue between my own practice and these artefacts he left behind.
My grandfather's images are weathered both physically and conceptually by the time that has passed, and coloured by the interpretations we bring to them (and their creator) three decades later.
Although the images presented here are my own, the project will feel unresolved until I can find a way to visually manifest this dialogue between past and present.
